Ash Julian, the winner of the Phi Beta Kappa Wit and Wisdom award, will present their award-winning essay "Stranger Things Robin Buckley and the Female Autism Phenotype Theory." The essay compares the depiction of the character Robin in Stranger Things to the characteristics of female autism phenotype and posits that the character represents a positive example of a female character with autism (a type of character rarely depicted in popular culture).

The Bergren Forum takes place every Thursday lunchtime during the semester from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm in Nevins Theater. You're welcome to bring your own lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Alfred's Flamingo Pop-up Restaurant is back! If you were on campus in April 2022, you would remember our delicious Tanzanian and Polish dishes. We are back with a new twist!

We are excited to share an experience and a new level of healthy and fresh food.

Our pop-up event is Thursday, April 18th at the Community Table, 2nd floor of Powell Campus Center at Alfred University, from 11 AM to 2 PM.

AVI Dining Services will supervise the event, and we are super excited for you to try our dishes!

Our Menu is on the Pre-order form (link attached), and the payments will go through Stripe; a secure online payment system for businesses.

All meals will be served with a complimentary dispenser drink.

We highly recommend pre-orders. The Pre-order window will close at 2 PM on Wednesday, April 17.

Walk-ins will be served with payment by Cash, Venmo, Cash App, Debit, and Credit Cards only.

*All proceeds donated from this pop-up event, will be donated to the official HotDog Day charities.

Allowing flexible or multiple due dates can help students with busy schedules, and help accommodate special requests due to a variety of circumstances (athletes who must travel for a game, or students who observe a religious holiday). Neurodiversity and autism acceptance are slowly becoming the norm across the U.S. instead of simply awareness. A few reminders for April include: listening to autistic voices, celebrating neurodiversity and autistic joy, developing a critical awareness of organizations like Autism Speaks, and supporting autistic-led organizations such as ASAN, AWN, Autistic Inclusive Meets, Autistics for Autistics, and Yellow Ladybugs. Remember - autistic folks are not a puzzle to be solved.

The final Women's and Gender Studies Roundtable of the year will be held the last Friday in April: Friday, April 26th, from 12:20 - 1:10 p.m., in the Herrick Library BookEnds space. The presenter will be graduating WGST minor, Valerie Mintz. Valerie will be presenting about her research in feminist disability studies with a focus on feminist cognitive disabilities. Valerie's advisor for this project is Dr. Meredith Field (Sociology). Please join us to celebrate the work of WGST students and their faculty.

The WGST roundtables are free and open to the public. As always, scrumptious refreshments and beverages will be available.

State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr. returned to Alfred University on Friday afternoon, April 12, during his tour of the SUNY system. King also spent time in Alfred last spring as part of his visits to SUNYâ€™s 64 institutions.
