| Can I use a credit card
to pay my bill?
Credit card payments can be accepted for any charges other than
tuition, room, board or the student service fee. You also have the
option of paying your entire bill using ACH (preauthorized debits)
by completing the ACH
agreement form (PDF) and returning it by mail or fax along with
a copy of a voided check to the Student Service Center. Top How and when are refunds
determined?
After final billing in September and February, refunds are processed
on any account with a credit balance and forwarded to the student's
Powell box. If a student is expecting a refund, a request to review
the account can be made before this time. Top Why would my schedule
be held?
Schedules are held if there is a balance due on the student account
due to a missed payment, incomplete financial aid, or incomplete
contract with TMS for monthly payments before your arrival. Top When are late fees charged?
Late fees are imposed if payment for the balance due on an account
is not paid by the billing due date, financial aid is not applied
for by the billing due date, or not signing up for TMS by the billing
due date. There is a grace period of five days before we actually
apply a late payment to allow for mail delays. Top What exactly is the pending
credits section of the bill?
Financial aid that has not been applied to your account yet is in
the gray box called pending credits. Codes after the line items
reflect the status at the time of the billing.
- "A" means awarded and is a guaranteed
amount which will be applied to your account.
- "E" means only that you are eligible
for that amount.
Your balance due resulted from adding the charges less the financial
aid applied and then subtracting the pending aid. You need to
verify the information in the pending credit box. Pay particular
attention to any information or correspondence from the originators
of these line items. An E indicated that your loan has not been
applied for (i.e. Stafford Loans), a promissory note needs to
be signed at Financial Aid (i.e. Perkins Loans) or the award is
waiting for verification (i.e. TAP). Only you know what aid you
will be using from this box. If you are not going to apply for
all the loans in this box, then you need to send additional payment
equal to that amount. If aid has an E status that you are unsure
about, please contact the Student Service Center or the Financial
Aid office with your questions.
Top I have a private scholarship/alternative
loan/Parent Plus loan and it is not in pending credits.
Alternative loans, plus loans and scholarships are not guaranteed
so they never show in the pending credits until approved, or actual
payment is made. If you intend to pay the balance with any of these,
you must contact the Student Service Center to arrange to clear
you account based on this information. Keep copies of all applications
and scholarship letters for proof. Top Can I sign a promissory
note for the balance due on my account?
No, monthly payments are only made through TMS. Top What is TMS?
If you would like to pay your education expenses monthly, use the
Interest-Free Monthly Payment Option offered by our partner, Tuition
Management Systems. The payment option is available for a
enrollment fee and includes personal account service, automated
account information 24 hours a day, access to your account through
their website,
and even gives you a chance to win one of eight annual $1,000 Tuition
Management Systems Scholarships. Visit the Tuition
Management Systems website for more information on payment options,
education loans, free education payment counseling, and the many
ways they can help you afford education. Top Can I use work-study
to pay my tuition?
No, work-study is paid directly to the student in the form of a
paycheck. Top I have been charged
for student insurance and am already covered by another policy.
All students are required to have insurance and are initially
charged. If you are covered by another policy, you need to send
in the waiver card that is mailed to you from the Student Affairs
Office in July. The deadline to complete this waiver card is August
31. When the waiver card is received your account is credited for
the insurance charge. Questions concerning insurance should be directed
to Daryl Conte, Associate Dean of Student Affairs at 607.871.2133,
or email.
