Alfred University requires all students (graduate and undergraduate) to carry health insurance. The University offers a low-premium student accident/illness insurance policy, administered by Academic HealthPlans and underwritten by Aetna Insurance Company. Coverage is in effect for a full twelve-month period and includes prescription, emergency room, X-ray and lab benefits, and a range of inpatient and outpatient benefits. There is also a seven month plan for those students that enroll for Spring semester only.
Once a student enrolls at Alfred University, they will be automatically enrolled in the plan and a charge will be applied to their student account. If the student has family or private health insurance, they may waive enrollment into the Alfred University student health insurance plan. The waiver form should be completed online at http://www.ahpcare.com/alfred.
Please note that international students are not eligible for this waiver and must carry the AU insurance.

All parents and students are encouraged to read the information thoroughly to understand the range and limits of our coverage. Students will also need to review their current plan to make sure that they have adequate coverage in the Alfred area before deciding to purchase or waive the insurance coverage.
If a complete waiver is not submitted by the deadline, the student will be enrolled in the insurance. Insurance cards will be mailed four to six weeks after the start of classes.
