The Writing Center provides free writing assistance to all Alfred University students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, and support personnel. Our student tutors represent a wide range of disciplines. Each tutor is trained to deal with all kinds of writing tasks such as:

  • pre-writing
    • discovery of ideas
    • generating a thesis
  • drafting
    • organizing thoughts and materials
    • developing evidence
    • incorporating research
  • revision
    • editing
    • presentation issue

Whatever your need -- whether a quick grammar brush-up or long-term assistance with a research paper -- we can help you improve your writing abilities and gain confidence as a writer.

How to Use the Writing Center

The Writing Center is located in Seidlin 003. We have a new system in place than previous years, so to make an appointment, visit this website: www.rich75.com/alfred. If you have never used this method before, you will need to register. Fill out all of the required fields (email, your real first and last name, and a password). We would prefer if you use your Alfred email.

The tutors at the Writing Center represent a variety of writing backgrounds. All of us feel we can help you with any type of writing, but if you would rather go to someone in your major, that's fine too. Check the Staff page to view the list and description of all of the tutors and schedule for the current semester. Also take a look at the Schedule page to see which tutors work when or to see which times would work best for you, then follow this page www.rich75.com/alfred to sign up! Again, if you have never used this method before, you will need to register.

Sitting down with a tutor to look over and discuss a paper is the best way to not only improve that paper, but your writing and confidence in general.

If you have any questions about writing or the new appointment system, contact the Writing Center at x2245 or email fcobb@alfred.edu.
