Using Your U: Drive

Having an AU network/email account allows you to access a personal network space. This space allows you to put your documents in a place that you can access from anywhere on the AU network as well as from home. The space means no more transporting disks (that can go bad so easily) from place-to-place. There's also no need to remember where you left the disk! You'll have access to it from any networked computer.

Locating the U Drive:

On Campus:

Windows XP users will automatically connect to their AU user space on JOBS when they Log On the AU Network using your Alfred username and password. Use this space as you would any other drive. If you look in the My Computer icon on your Desktop you will see a "U" Drive with your user name on it .

Samba Udrive

If you don't automatically connect to the JOBS computer you can manually map a drive to your "U" drive . You must have an active AU network account to access it.

To Map a drive:

On Campus - Windows

Right Click on My Computer
Choose Map a Drive. You can choose any drive letter but you may want to use U:
Type in the path: \\jobs.alfred.edu\username (username is your AU network user name)

If you are trying to get to the "Public" folder, in the address field type: \\people.alfred.edu\username (username is your AU network user name)

Off Campus - Windows

Open Microsoft Internet Explorer
In the address field type: udrive.alfred.edu
Hit "return"

Or try ftp://username@jobs.alfred.edu (username is your AU network user name)

OR:
Use your ftp software to ftp to jobs.alfred.edu using your network username and password as the account and password.

On Campus - Mac

Connecting from a Mac OS X

In the Finder select "Connect to Server..." from the "Go" menu
Type in smb://jobs.alfred.edu/username (username is your AU network user name)
Click "Connect"
Open drive icon on desktop

If you are trying to get to the "Public" folder, in the address field type: smb://people.alfred.edu/username (username is your AU network user name)

Off Campus - Mac

Connecting from a Mac OS X

** Please note: this information has changed; AFP access is no longer supported. **

Open an FTP client (a free OSX FTP Client called Cyberduck can be downloaded at: http://cyberduck.ch/Cyberduck-2.8.dmg) and connect to jobs.alfred.edu/username (username is your AU network user name).
