Sample Abstract
Children's literature is one of the most influential mediums for the gender socialization of young children. Furthermore, Caldecott books are "highly visible and frequently selected" and are considered to be the "best" books for children. Through content analysis, a quantitative study was conducted, testing existing theory about the sexist nature of gender representations in Caldecott award-winning books. Additionally, the question of whether or not change has occurred over time was examined. All findings from this study will be presented, along with some discussion of past research in this area.
