Fred Gertz Center for Academic Success
The mission of the Center for Academic Success (CAS) is to support all Alfred University students in becoming engaged with and empowered by the learning process. Through academic consultation, tutoring and the provision of other resources and accommodations, our staff assists students in developing the mindset and skills that they need to be successful learners - in college and throughout their lives.
** Covid-19 Procedures **
The Center for Academic Success (CAS) will primarily be using Microsoft Teams to provide academic support and disability services for the Spring 2021 semester. Access procedures for various services are outlined through the link below.
The Center for Academic Success provides tutoring support to Alfred University students in a wide variety of disciplines. Tutors are typically undergraduate or graduate students who have been recommended by faculty members and who have done well in the target course or discipline.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) consists of regularly scheduled, informal, peer-led review sessions for traditionally difficult foundational courses such as chemistry, physics, and biology. Virtual SI study sessions focus on skill-development and review of difficult concepts and are open to anyone in the course.
The Writing Center provides free writing assistance to all Alfred University students, faculty and staff. Whatever your need - whether it's a quick grammar brush-up or long-term assistance with a research paper - we can help you improve your writing abilities and gain confidence as a writer.
Academic Consultants are advanced graduate students in the Alfred University school psychology program who assist students with developing and improving the skills necessary to be successful - in college and beyond.
Alfred University is dedicated to providing all students with full access to its facilities, student programs, activities and services, as well as providing academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Services are intended to maximize independence and encourage the integration of students with disabilities into all areas of college life.
