Bringing Your Computer to School
Some programs at Alfred University have certain recommendations for personal computers to best accommodate the workload. These recommendations can be found below.
Recommendations for Engineering
- Warrantied Service Repair for HP and Dell
- Operating System: Windows 10 or 11 (Apple devices will not work due to software requirements)
- Hard Drive Space: 500 GB or larger (SSD strongly recommended)
- Processor: Intel or AMD, Core i5 equivalent or larger
- Memory: 16 GB or higher
- Video Card: NVidia or AMD with 4GB of VRAM
- Built-in Network port is recommended
- Built-in webcam
- Optional for Desktops: Wireless networking card; USB webcam
Recommendations for Other Disciplines
- Operating System: Windows 10, 11, or Mac
- HDD Space: 250 GB or more
- Processor: Intel or AMD
- Memory: 8 GB or more
- Built-in Network port is recommended (USB to Ethernet adapter if needed)
- Built-in webcam
- Optional for Desktops: Wireless networking card; USB webcam
